This series was started in 2017 reflection to floral designs and arrangements. My mother, a floral designer and judge would surround the home with arrangements for competitions for local and surrounding states, including a few times Art in Bloom at NCMA. As an artist, one must absorb their surroundings and these arrangements are continuously applied when drawing inspiration from nature.
The cosmic element takes the top of the flowers and floats them in spaces of air, pollen, and stardust. Series one and two explored this concept in full. Series three, some currently on view, abstracted the florals by magnifying them and exploring their movement and combustion.
Series one through three used the mediums oil paint, cold-wax, and dry pigment canvas, and linen.
Series four, on the main wall, revisits the concept from the beginning, bringing in the other pieces of an arrangement including greenery and the shape of the vessel holding the arrangement. The previous mediums were used in addition to model paste and liquid alkyd.
Paintings from series 1 & 2 have all been acquired. Series 3 & 4 are available.
